ODE TO VELEMSENI:

The night I planned to record Velemseni there was a huge thunderstorm, the sound of the heavy raindrops hitting the corrugated iron could be picked up by the microphone. The only makeshift solution I could conjure up was to cover Velemseni in my curtains to muffle unwanted noise. Despite this, Velemseni still delivered in one take which I cannot be more grateful for. During the Smilerphone recording session, I was listening to "Ode to Velemseni" in my headphones. To my surprise Smiles pulls out a flute and begins freestyling unknowingly over this track perfectly. You can hear Smiles’ reaction to this magical mistake at the end of the tune after placing the headphones on his head while he continues to play.
